Some fashion designers look on to their muse for inspiration, and for hundreds of years artists have done the same. Unlike designers whose primary goal is to make a profit by selling their product, real artists by virtue create works of art simply because it is their need to express themselves in a way that is uniquely their own. When we think of contemporary art stars, names like Damien Hirst, or Jeff Koons come to mind. But these two art giants lack the swagger and rockstar appeal of say a David Bailey: famous fashion photographer of 60's swinging London whose openly promiscuous lifestyle for bedding beautiful models was legend. Bailey's unforgettable persona inspired the making of the film Blowup (Blow-Up 1966).Just when we thought the art world couldn't get any exciting, along comes New York artist Skye Nicolas whose work is described as "a perfect synergy between two forms of art: the art of portraiture, and the art of fashion photography. Both art forms are thematically known to celebrate idealized beauty, romanticism, human sexuality, and the female figure." Grandson of a foreign diplomat who has seduced both the fashion and art world draws our curiosity this dark handsome young man who continues to captivate his a-list supporters through private art viewings in New York City and major cities in Europe. His art shows have been attended by the likes of Grammy Award winner Estelle, Naomi Campbell, and actor Mickey Rourke. His London exhibition in May 2009 was supported by Philly Adams of the Saatchi Gallery of London, art mogul Jay Jopling, and legendary British curator Sir Norman Rosenthal.
His series Disintegration "The reclamation of negative space" features stunning faded renderings of a naked Ali Michael and a gorgeous Michaela Kocianova in a flowing white dress. Nicolas collaborates with Marlon Richards (son of rock legend Keith Richards of the Rolling Stones) on The Mortelle series. His constant interaction with beautiful women is all part of his work, which would make him the envy of just about any man. His openness is admirable, his charm infectious.
