VOGUE 100: A CENTURY OF STYLE.

THE PROJECT 

Who, What, Where, When, Why, How?

It's fashion season, yet again! An exciting time of the year was made even more interesting as I had

 the lovely opportunity to design for the Vogue100 exhibition, at the National Portrait Gallery in

 London. I was asked to select two covers and develop collections based on each of the covers by

 Vogue. The end product was a 7 piece lip collection, based on a 1960's cover. Can't you imagine

 Eddie Sedgwick wearing the drop earrings? I can, very fabulous, very Kylie Jenner lips a la 60's!

 The seven pieces includes necklaces, ring, studs, drop earrings and a bracelet.

THE INSPIRATION AND DESIGN 

This is one of the two covers I considered, but did not opt for, as the NPG felt that the lip

 collection was really rocking. It's always such fun to work with Vogue, and 

especially to celebrate their 100 years. You'd never know by its cover that it's

 100 years, I guess botox really does work... 

THE LAUNCH PARTY

This was the launch of the exhibition, there we're tons of celebrities and press personalities.

 It's so humbling to have such great talents interested in my pieces, thanks guys! :)  

I am so happy and honored to get to work on this project, 

I truly think the National Portrait Gallery is one of the best museums in the world, 

and the project has truly been a pleasure!

Design for a Catwalk

MY Fashion week collaboration 

As you may know, I concluded my collaboration with Maya Hansen for her “Padded” biker themed collection a few days ago. This is my usual design process for collaborations...

1. Receive the Call: Maya called me 2 weeks before the show. Staring at your phone won't do the trick, sometimes YOU have to make the call. You're not dating, so this time don't play  "hard to get". 

2. Do the Research: I bought books, magazines, and went to a motorcycle fair in London. Don't make the same mistake as I did, wear a pink jumpsuit and blue pastel fur to a biker themed event (they're great though!!). Bellow is a picture of a perfect outfit to get your creativity going! I'm wearing earrings from my latest collection Bomb Shell,  boots Alexander Wang NY, Racoon fur coat from Beni Room, coulottes pants and a Loewe bag.

3. Sketching: I use pencil and illustrator to sketch the pieces. Remember to fuel up with a banana, it'll give you super powers to become an amazing sketcher. 

4. Prototypes: I create the pieces and show them to the designer for feedback. I made the arrow earrings upon Maya's specific request, but the highway, helmet, and globes was my own initiative. 

5. Whatsapp Communication: Communication is key, so we created a whatsapp group (Maya, Chema Anton, head of Press for Maya and I) to discuss the pieces, quantities, designs, colours, sizes etc. Poop emoji's were used very freely. 

6. Puzzle Pieces with Models: I brought the jewellery a few days before the event, to pair them with the outfits. This we do as a joint effort, because we're all in this together, like in High School Musical. 

TIP: Maya gives me a lot of CREATIVE freedom, making the process so much FUN, otherwise i would just be producing and I’m not a factory worker, I live my life democratically. (Love you China!)

BIGGEST CHALLENGE: A two week design process is do-able if you're passionate and hard working, which you have to be in this industry. The competition is brutal and unlike ELEPHANTS, people easily forget you.

“Let it go. If I worried about what every bitch says about me i'd never leave the house.“

When a product comes with a background story, it means more to me. This particular scarf is so sassy all I want to do is shout “b**ch, hold my earrings“ when I wear it. It's a fabulous feeling. I imagine myself to be Samantha Jones when I wear it, and I feel so fierce. I wish we could all be fierce together, and I mean everyone.

As a modern woman, I am of the opinion that we should not have to apologise for what we want, be afraid ask for it, not have to worry about how we are perceived or worry about being career driven. These are things Samantha Jones from Sex And The City stand for, and why I made this scarf. I think we all need a little encouragement once in a while, so support your friends by wearing this scarf, or just tell em' that they're fabulous! Don't get me wrong, we need men too, but perhaps for other purposes.

In love with the new issue of Tank magazine with different covers!

 "Christian Lacroix with iPad and stylo (his tool of choice nowadays) generated a series of sketches, combining his legendary illustrations with new collage techniques. His digital tools only enhanced his personal touch, his distinct fingerprint on such delicate details was perfectly in tune with the new Tank magazine issue's theme of technology and sensuality and so unmistakably Lacroix with his incredible genius to make us dream. I love his interpretation of the looks of the season by fellow creators, and hope you do too." - By Carol Issa.

MY COLLABORATION WITH DIESEL 

Este fascinante collar en forma de corazón rojo con gotas de sangre ha sido diseñado en colaboración con Diesel para celebrar el primer aniversario de su perfume Loverdose. Se dice que la fragancia tiene una molécula que causa una adicción al amor. El amor se puede presentar con mucha fuerza pero también con debilidad, por eso quise diseñar una pieza llamativa que demostrara estos dos aspectos.El corazón nos da la fuerza para vivir pero también es frágil y delicado en su naturaleza. Hecho de un atractivo color rojo vivo , no sólo refleja su color natural , sino que simboliza  pasión y emoción. Cristales de Swarovski llenan las gotas rojas que rodean esta original pieza ,  añadiendo glamour y seducción.

This red heart necklace was designed in collaberation with Diesel to celebrate the 1st anniversary of their Diesel Loverdose Perfume.  They say that their perfume holds a 'secret presence of 'Molecule A' which causes an addiction to love. Love can present us with strength and weakness and I wanted to produce a piece that reflected these aspects. I felt producing an acrylic human heart encompassed these initial thoughts. The heart provides us with strength to live however it is also fragile and delicate in nature. Opting for the colour red, not just to reflect the hearts natural colour, but to encompass the thoughts of passion and emotion. Swarovski crystals are enveloped by red droplets that surround the heart, breaking up the colour and adding another dimension to the piece.

FRIDA KAHLO ON THE CATWALK WEARING PATRICIA NICOLAS JEWELLERY

MERCEDES BENZ MADRID FASHION WEEK - As you might all know I partnered up with designer Maya Hansen to create pieces for Madrid Fashion Week. Everything worked out perfectly, even the Madrid weather remained beautiful as ever. Backstage with Maya I had such fun dressing and styling the amazing models.

The collection was all about Mexico, the day of death, virgin Guadalupe, and the mexican painter and one of my obsessions Frida Kahlo. Lots of colors, prints, flowers in the hair and fun statement pieces.


Frida was once famously quoted to say "I think that little by little I'll be able to solve my problems and survive". This collection is certainly an expression of female strength and endurance, showing women to be bold, beautiful and strong, just as Frida lived her life. 

Drawing on Frida´s latino roots (which I share!) I incorporated gothic skulls, writhing, snakes and skeletons hands but by mixing them with comical palm trees, watermelon necklaces, and sumptuous lips earrings to keep the pieces fresh and modern. 

This new collaboration is an eclectic mix of old and new. Drawing on elements of vintage style juxatposed with my cutting edge, contemporary eye for design, I created a jewellery range that I hope any woman can wear with pride.

MERCEDES BENZ FASHION WEEK MADRID - Como ya sabéis los que me seguís por twitter he colaborado con la diseñadora Maya Hansen para la creación de estas piezas para la Mercedes benz Fashion Week en Madrid. Todo salió genial,incluyendo el increíble clima en España. Estuve los dos días en backstage con Maya y lo pasamos muy bien haciendo el estilismo a las modelos y dando un último vistazo para que todo saliera perfecto.

La colección fue inspirada en México, en el día de la muerte, la virgen de Guadalupe , y en mi obsesión , la pintora mexicana Frida Kahlo. Una colección muy artesanal, con mucho color y estampados, flores en el pelo y accesorios divertidos. 

Hay una cita de Frida Kahlo que dice ¨ Poco a poco voy a ser capaz de resolver mis problemas y sobrevivir ¨. es sin duda la base de nuestra colaboración. Dos diseñadoras unidas para mostrar la fortaleza de la mujer, la seguridad, la tenacidad, el talento,y el trabajo, justo como Frida Kahlo vivió su vida, siendo ella misma, luchando, siendo libre, siendo fuerte.

Con una base de raíces latinas, que comparto con Frida,  incorporamos calaveras, serpientes y esqueletos, y las mezclamos con piezas cómicas, palmeras tropicales con cocos de swarovski, collares sandía o pendientes de labios rojos, y así conseguimos hacer una colección con piezas frescas y modernas.
