Just when fashion was beginning to come to terms with the horrific death of Alexander McQueen, his last collection was revealed to the world. A collection more beautiful than anything before. Every piece was 80% completely handmade by McQueen before he committed suicide, as the presentation was a lasting memory of what fashion will not forget. The low key, very exclusive showings were a far cry from the theatrical productions the brand normally puts on, but they were in no way any less dramatic. As the majority of the audience left in tears, the atmosphere of deep sorrow could not be lifted despite the garments rich presence.
It becomes apparent now that Lee Mcqueen was a troubled man, having been quoted saying that he was 'driven by his insecurities and that he believed that all successful people were'. He created a way to engage with the emotions of the wearer of the garment, making you feel special inside, perhaps in the way that he wanted to feel special himself. This episode is a harsh look at how you can be at the height of you career and appear to have achieved all that you have ever dreamed off, yet still be so miserable inside.
The most shocking thing is the brutality of his suicide. Found hanging in his wardrobe, he clearly wanted to spare himself no pain, it is a heartbreaking representation on the way he was feeling. It's said that there is a very fine line between genius and insanity and McQueen was obviously bordering it.
The presentation closed with 'Each piece was Unique, as was he' in a remarkable tribute to his imagination and his life altogether.
McQueen died on the 11th February 2010, in the same month i was featured in UK Elle discussing how Mcqueen was the inspiration behind my personal style as well as my jewellery collections.

Cada pieza fue hecha en un 80% a mano por McQueen antes de suicidarse, y su presentación fue un recuerdo que el mundo nunca olvidará. Su último show en París muy exclusivo estuvo muy lejos de las producciones teatrales que normalmente ofrece, pero de ninguna manera menos dramática. La mayoría de la audiencia salía en lágrimas, la atmósfera de profunda tristeza no se podía levantar a pesar de la expectante colección.
Se hace evidente ahora que Mcqueen era un hombre que vivía atormentado. Una vez leí en una entrevista algo sobre él que me impactó muchísimo, decía de él mismo que a la hora de crear estaba «impulsado por sus inseguridades y que creía que todas las personas de éxito eran inseguras". Él creó una manera diferente de relacionar esas emociones con sus prendas, quizás esa era la forma en la que se sentía especial? . Este acontecimiento es una mirada dura a cómo puedes ver a alguien en un momento álgido en su carrera , que ha logrado algo con lo que todo el mundo sueña y aún así sentirse tan miserable por dentro.
Lo más impactante es la brutalidad de su suicidio, encontrado ahorcado en su armario, una representación conmovedora sobre cómo se estaba sintiendo.
Se dice que hay una línea muy fina entre el genio y la locura y McQueen era obviamente un ejemplo.
McQueen murió el 11 de febrero de 2010, en ese mismo mes apareció en una revista en UK una cita mía comentando que el era el diseñador que me inspiraba por su estilo, talento y creatividad, tanto a mi estilo personal como a la hora de crear mis colecciones de joyas.
