HAVANA

I  am writing from a hammock on the roof of the Saratoga hotel overlooking the ruined streets of Havana. I've been here for seven days now and I have the feeling of being here for a month. I am also feeling a mix of excitement of the new and sadness for this decadent but incredible city.
Colorful buildings full of  clothes that the cubans put out to dry on the balconies of gnawed wood and antique cars with rainbow colors is something that can not be seen anywhere else in the world. But they have a  tragedy behind,  the poverty of the country and the fifty three years of communism that has led the country to decline.

Cuba in the 30's and 40's  was said to be the playground of the great actresses of Hollywood. Marilyn Monroe was walking through the streets and went to the wildest parties, but now all you see is dilapidated buildings, and some Cubans with happy faces looking at you as if trying to travel to our world.  It is also a country without freedom of speech,  although some Cubans will tell you the great truths about their government warning you with fear.

It is a country with an amazing potential, perfect Caribbean temperature , and those breathtaking beaches and beautiful architecture. The pastel-colored houses,  and those palm trees makes it even more exotic, something not seen before.
Havana has style, and Cubans are people with great culture, illiteracy is almost non-existant.  Everybody goes to school. The first day I left the hotel and took a motorcycle taxi I was surprised when the taxi driver told me he was an engineer but they can`t develop their talent. You can see so many people with education working in the tourism sector because it is the only way to save some money.
Havana is so unfair, it's beautiful, mysterious and exciting...

We rent a car for tomorrow as we are going to the coast, first  Cienfuegos, then Trinidad and we will end up in Cayo Santa María.
I am so excited of travelling to all these amazing and inspirational places.   I will tell you more news very soon...stay tuned.
In the photos I am wearing comfortable clothes to visit the city; jeans from Yube and the top is from Zara from past seasons, the ring is a new design from my collection Limited Edition.
